Super Bowl Preview

I love the game of football, but I am tired of the crap that come with the Super Bowl. Here is a quick preview of what I feel is important. The Arizona Cardinals have the 4th ranked offense in the NFL, but the 19th ranked defense. The Pittsburgh Steelers have the top ranked defense in the NFL, but the 22nd ranked offense. During the post-season, the Cardinals offense has continued to role and their defense has stepped up. The Steelers offense has not been great, but they won’t lose the team the game. For the Steelers to win, the defense needs to keep up what they are doing, and the offense must eliminate mistakes.

It isn’t as simple for Arizona, they need to protect QB Kurt Warner and make holes for the running backs. They need to win time of possession. The Steelers will keep running and use up the clock, so it is imperative to keep the Steelers offense off the field. The Cardinals defense needs to stop the run and guard the deep pass. Getting to QB Ben Roethlisberger isn’t going to be an issue, he was sacked 46 times this season.

The prediction:
Arizona 17 Pittsburgh 24
I want the Cardinals to win, but I just don’t think they can beat the Steelers D.

Last night, the Washington Capitals lost to the Boston Bruins 3-2 in OT. The Bruins are the top team in the Eastern Conference with a record of 35-8-5 amounting 75 points. The Caps are in second place with a record of 30-15-4 equaling 64 points. Boston plays in a supposedly “Power Division” in the Northeast. The Caps play in the “Crappy” Southeast or “NASCAR” division. If that is the case, then are the Bruins that good? The B’s have played 14 games against southeast opponents, while the Caps have only played 8. Boston’s record is 12-2 (both loses to the Caps). Washington’s record against their division is 5-3. Using the numbers, Boston is finished with their fluff schedule and it is time for them to play real teams. If the Caps take care of business, they should have no issue catching Boston. Now I ask one more time, Are the Bruins really good or is has their schedule helped them out.

A lot has happened since I last published, so I will try to catch up. I won’t talk about the Super Bowl until we get closer to Sunday. I love football, but there is too much hype. Why did ESPN have Sunday NFL Countdown this mourning?

Tonight is the NHL All-Star game. I know many people don’t care about it, but tonight is all about goals. I love hockey and I want to know why people don’t. The answer I get the most is…not enough scoring. Scoring is up in the NHL and super stars that are capable of 60+ goal seasons are back to the game. The second have of the regular season starts Monday.

Last Tuesday, I went to the UVA vs UMD basketball in College Park. I was ready to bash the notoriously bad mannered Maryland fans, but I couldn’t. The arena was a third empty, which is unacceptable for an ACC opponent. I know it was Inauguration Day, but there was no traffic. The fans that actually showed up, weren’t really into the game. They got loud a few times, but it didn’t feel like a college game. The game itself was bad. Each team was plagued by turnovers and Maryland couldn’t rebound to save their lives.

That what happened this week. My outlook for next week is the Wizards will loose and the Caps will win!

The 2009 NFL Playoffs have been very unpredictable. It it wasn’t for the Steelers, this weekend would make no sense. The Eagles and Ravens are both 6 seeds and the Cardinals are a 4. Staying with the theme of the current playoffs, there is no reason that Arizona can’t with the whole damn thing. Pennsylvania can also have their way with the old Steagles game. Can the Steelers outlast the birds…all the birds and win the Super Bowl? I have always wanted to be an analyst and pick games while sounding like I know what I’m talking about.

NFC Championship Game
Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals
Being a Redskins fan, I hate the Eagles. The Eagles are a better team, but they won’t win. The Cardinals are poised to go all the way…Arizona Wins.

AFC Championship Game
Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers
Defense, Defense, Defense. That is what this game is about. Baltimore wants this game bad. Two losses are bad and they don’t want a third…Ravens Win.

WOW!

Wow! The Divisional Playoff Weekend is only half over. The outcomes have been surprising. I’m not surprised that the Ravens beat the Titans, but did anyone truly believe the Cardinals could come east and kill the Panthers. I was wrong, I didn’t think Arizona had a chance. I guess that’s why you play the game. More to come later…

Adam “Pacman” Jones and his lawyer appeared on The NFL Today on CBS, Saturday before the Ravens vs. Titans Divisional Playoff Game. James Brown did a great job asking questions. Jones seemed stupid. He was repetitive with his answers and didn’t say anything of value. The highlight of the interview was when JB asked Pacman about strip clubs. “What is it about strip clubs that you can’t stay away from?” Jones responded with this gem, “I live in Atlanta and I like edda strip clubs.” Enough said! JB asked the questions we all wanted to know. Pacman also said that he thinks a deserves a second chance. He already got that chance. He is pushing his luck and wants a third chance. I think he will get it. I don’t think he should, but he probably will. Why does Orioles OF Adam Jones have to share a name with this thug.

NASCAR Update

Courtesy of Daytona500.com
The Daytona 500 is in 36 days. NASCAR has banned testing at NASCAR sanctioned tracks for 2009. No testing doesn’t mean there isn’t any news. Here are some of the big stories in NASCAR.

The Economy: If there is one sport that has really been affected by this whole economic crisis, it is NASCAR. The sport is based on sponsorship. Many teams have merged with other teams, such as Gillett Evernham(9, 10, 19) and Petty(43, 45), Dale Earnhardt Inc(01, 1, 8) and Chip Ganassi(41, 42). Other teams have sold some or all of the team to another investor, such as Bill Davis(22) and Hall of Fame(96). The Owner Points to lock a team in to the first five races is mixed up. Speed Weeks at Daytona will be an interesting time in NASCAR.

Contracts: There are good drivers, past champions without rides for this season. Bobby Labonte, Scott Riggs, Jeremy Mayfield, and Maybe AJ Allmendinger. There are fewer teams, so there are less rides. It is sad that Labonte, the 2001 Champion doesn’t have a ride.

The start to the 2009 Motor Racing season is January 24th with the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
