Oh So Close

Last night, the Cavaliers defeated the Wizards 93-89. It was a close throughout the game. The Cavaliers scored the last 11 points of the game. I knew the Wizards couldn’t hold a 6 point lead with 26 seconds left and win. I will say that the refs gave the Cavs the game in the end. They called an offensive foul on the last Wizards possession. At that point they were only down by one, but Cleveland hit both free throws and ultimately put the game out of range. The Wizards can keep up with any team in basketball (except Boston), but they can’t win. This team can easily be over .500. I expect a turnaround when Brendan Haywood returns.

Wizards Lose Again

The Washington Wizards are off to their worst start in franchise history. With just 4 wins and 22 losses, the Wiz are 17 games back of Orlando. It doesn’t get easier Thursday night. The Wizards will journey into Cleveland and play the Cavilers. The Cavs have as many losses as the Wizards have wins, and to make it worse, the Cavs don’t lose at home. This game will be nationally televised on TNT at 8pm. Lets be positive now. The Wizards can pull an upset in Cleveland on national TV and be the talk of the NBA. Do I think this will happen? NO! I’m looking ahead to Saturday night. The 3-26 Oklahoma Thunder come to town. This game should not disappoint. The worst teams in the NBA facing off for the right to be the second worst team in the NBA. Why can’t the NBA draft be like football, the worst team gets the top pick in the draft. This game will decide who gets more entries in the draft lottery. I won’t throw the towel in yet. If the Celtics can go on a 20 game win streak, why can’t the Wiz. Imagine a 26-22 record. That should put them in the playoffs.

After reading my ramblings, you probably can tell I don’t know what to think. All I can do is be a fan and support them in their time of need. At least I got the Caps.

Salary Cap

I just don’t get. A salary cap is suppose to limit the amount of money a team spends on players. In baseball, there is a luxury tax. This tax is a “punishment” form the commisoner for breaking a rule. The New York Yankees must pay $26.9 million to MLB as punishmnet for going over the cap. read more Now Buster Olney reports that Mark Teixeira has signed a 8 year $180 million plus contract. This is crazy. As an Oriole fan, I don’t understand how a team can spend this elephantine amount of money. I also have no clue if and how the Orioles will ever be competative again. I know the Rays won the division, but can they do it again. Bud Selig needs to grow a pair and say no. A salary cap should mean: A TEAM MAY NOT SPEND MORE MONEY THAN THE CAP SET BY BASEBALL! If a team is over, they should forfeit wins. To make it worse, all the games will be home game. This way a team will lose valuable revenue. If the economy is so bad, where is all this money coming from?

Shut-Up Deion

I’m trying to relax and watch a good football game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys. The game is on the NFL Network with Bob Papa, Marshall Faulk, and Deion Sanders. I have a lot of respect for Marshall Faulk. He is a solid commentator who knows what he is talking about. Bob Papa is okay with the play-by-play duties. He doesn’t have a strong voice like Joe Buck or Jim Nance, but he calls a good game. That brings me to DeionPrimetime-Over Hyped-Idiot-I love the Cowboys even though I played for the Falcons, Ravens, Redskins, and 49ers” Sanders. Does he ever shut-up? He talks crap about nothing. I don’t know if he is actually watching the game or smoking pot. He praises TO’s skills right after TO drops a wide open pass. He doesn’t provide any information of the matchups. I don’t care that he is friends with Rat Lewis or Tony Romo. I don’t know them, I just watch them on TV. 21, be quiet. You were an average corner and a decent kick returner, but not a Hall Of Famer. I just want him to SHUT THE F#%K UP!

Sammy Baugh is and will always be the greatest football player ever! He passed away Wednesday night in Texas. He played for the Skins’ from 1937-1952. He won 2 NFL Championships and he is an original member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His 33 is the only number retired by the Redskins. He was all around the best football player ever. He was 94. Click here for Baughs Stats

Now I feel that sports media is not doing their job. I know most people have no clue who he is, but that is no reason to throw this story in between NBA highlights. Sportscenter had a 30 second tribute to him. ESPN radio and FOX Sports radio used it as transition from basketball
to hockey. For a player of this importance to America’s most popular sport to only get a sentence is inexcusable. I know I can’t do anything about it, but show some respect. I hope the Redskins carry a 33 sticker on the helmet for the rest of the season.

Mark Teixeira

Mark Teixeira is with out a doubt the most coveted free agent in baseball. He has size, power, and agility. He is a switch hitting first baseman that would make any team better. The Orioles, Nationals, Red Sox, Yankees, and Angels are “all in” to sign Tex. The Orioles are one team that really shouldn’t be in the market for him. It would be great to see this hometown boy play ball for his hometown team. I would be first in line to buy his Jersey, but the Orioles can’t sign him. Yes he would bring interest back to Baltimore, but when July comes and we are out of the playoff race, who will still show up to the games? I would love to see Mark Teixeira in the Orange and Black, but not now. We need to finish over .500 and establish a core group of young players. The thing I’m most nervous about is that he signs with another AL East team. I would prefer him stay in Anaheim or even come to Washington, but he can’t go to the Yankees or Red Sox.
