The paperclip is the next stop on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule. Martinsville is a flat half mile oval in southern Virginia. It is described as two drag strips with turns or a giant paper clip. joining the cup series this weekend is the Camping World Truck series. Denny Hamlin won last years, but the Hendrick cars are always good. Mike Skinner, Ron Hornaday and Dennis Setzer are always good in the trucks.

My Picks:

Cup: Jeff Gordon, it is time for Jeff to get a win. He always runs fast here and he is hungry for a win. Dale Jr. needs to have a good race. He has struggled of late and he knows how to get around the track.

Truck: Kevin Harvick, He is fast in practice and he is in the best equipment. He has more track time than the other drivers and this is the closest track to his home. His teamate, Ron Hornaday will be in the mix too.

I will never watch WUSA 9 Sports again. When the sports guy reads the nights sports, they better be correct. When you tease a segment, the information better be correct. Maybe I’m the only one, but I hate when I hear obvious sports facts from a sports guy wrong. He does this segment called “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” In this, he presents different aspects of sports. If done in a timely manor, it could work. Yes the segment is once a week, but if the clip is older than that don’t show it. Why did he show a clip of Kyle Busch at the NASCAR banquet form 2007 in 2009. No one can deny he has the credentials of a Sports caster. He did host Sportscenter, but without those crack writers at ESPN, he sucks. I don’t know him, but I have met him and if anything he is much nicer than Dave Feldman at WTTG. Don’t get me started on WTTG.

Could it? Could it be true? Could the worst team in the NBA get their star back? The answer is YES! With 10 games left Gilbert Arenas is planning on coming back for a handful of games. Finally, we can see what this team may be capable of. The best part of this story is the publicity. This from a team that I’ve forgotten about this season. I hope it will create some optimism for next season.

If the NHL playoffs started today…

Nothing special would happen in the West, but in the East…Oh Boy.
Bruins and Habs, Rangers and Devils, Caps and Canes and Pens and Flyer’s, What do all these teams have in common? Each team plays in the same division as their opponents and they are all rivals. I’m not one for making “if” statements, but I thought this was amusing.

Bristol Preview

Bristol, Tennessee is stop 5 in the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Joining them are the Nationwide Series and a special All-Star race. The track is a half mile, high banked oval in the hills of east Tennessee. Last year, Richard Childress Racing finished 1 2 3 with Jeff Burton winning. Joe Gibbs racing dominated the race with Tony Stewart leading 267 laps and Denny Hamlin leading 98. Driver’s to watch this weekend include Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon, and Kevin Harvick. Mark Martin and Dale Jr. really need to do well this weekend. This will be Mark Martins first time in a COT at Bristol and on the new surface, he will start on the pole. Click here for starting lineup

My Pick:

Cup Series: Jeff Gordon, He is leading the points. It won’t be long until he returns to victory lane. Watch out for Jimmie Johnson. He always does his business without fail.

Nationwide: Kyle Busch, He is realy good and it is hard to go against him.

All-Star: Rusty Wallace, he owned Bristol in the 90’s

As everyone knows, today is the first “real” day of the 2009 NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Tournament. Thanks to Fox Sports Radio’s Steve Czaban, Czabe.com has unveiled the Gargantubracket. It has everything that one needs to know about the games.

My dad and I recently visited the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. While looking for something to do, we stumbled upon the Knoxville Ice Dogs of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). The SPHL is a 6 team league in the south east. The teams are the Richmond (VA) Renegades, Columbus (GA) Cottonmouths, Fayetteville (NC) FireAntz, Huntsville (AL) Havoc, Twin City (Winston Salem) Cyclones and the Ice Bears. The game was played at the James White Civic Coliseum. This is small town hockey. The rink is small and tickets are cheap. It was a fun experience. From the intermission entertainment to the announcer picking the 3 stars. The Ice Bears won the game 5-3. There were no big hits and the fights seemed somewhat staged. The fans were into it and I am confident that hockey can succeed in the south.

Atlanta, Georgia is stop number 4 on the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. The track is a high banked 1.5 mile tri-oval in Hampton, Georgia. It is the fastest track with top speeds over 200 mph. Last year, Kyle Busch scored Toyota their first cup series win. Other recent winners are Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards. The Camping World Truck Series joins the cup series while the Nationwide Series takes a weekend off. The trucks race Saturday afternoon on SPEED and the cup race is Sunday at 1:30 on FOX

My Picks:
Sprint Cup Series: Kyle Busch, How can I pick against him. He is good. Also keep an eye on the regulars like Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordan. There are 2 drivers that have a good shot of making some noise. After his first top 5 in three years, Bobby Labonte is always good at Atlanta. David Reutimann is having a great season and his car is fast.

Camping World Truck Series: Kyle Busch, enough said.

Alex Ovechkin sat out of tonight’s game with a foot injury and the Caps lost their third straight. The Caps have fallen to the third spot in the division behind the Devils. Lets hope they can get it turned around against Pittsburgh.

What happened? The Capitals are in a funk. They have lost 2 straight games. Both games were at home and to division foes. The trade deadline came and went with no moves. Many speculated the team would get a veteran backup goaltender. Coach Boudreau is not happy and he will take care of it. The team should get a break when the Maple Leafs come to town and then the rematch with the Penguins. I don’t see a real rivalry with the Pens, but after last game, it’s on. To quote Don Cherry, “He’s gonna get it, and get it good.” Of course Cherry refereed to Ovechkin, but I am referring to Crosby. It should be a high energy, heavy hitting game.
