The Pittsburgh Flightless Birds are going to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Penguins killed the Caps 6-2 in game 7 of the Eastern Conference semis. That is it, the season is over for Washington. The series lived up to all the hype and most of it was entertaining. Pittsburgh outplayed the Caps in every game; they out shot, out hustled and were more disciplined. Along the same lines and since the series is over, I can’t bite my tongue anymore. The referees were awful. The Caps lost because they were outplayed, but I can’t not think that the outcome may have been different if the penalty’s were more even. The Caps did commit more penalty’s, but the Penguins committed their fair share and didn’t get called foe them. Never the less, it is over. Thank you for a great season!

After coming back from a 2-0 and 3-1 deficit against the Rangers, the Caps will face the flightless birds on Derby Day. If you are the NHL, is the rebirth complete. The sports 2 biggest and 2 best stars will be slugging it out for a trip the the Eastern Conference finals. The game will at 2pm in the east on NBC (for our Canadian viewers CBC). With the game taking place on a Sunday on free TV, I predict that this game will get some nice ratings. So will it live up to the hype?

The Rangers won 2-1 to take a 3-1 series league over the Caps. The Caps have dominated the games, but have only one win to show for it. I don’t believe the Rangers are a good team. It looks like the Caps are wearing them out. There is one reason for the Rangers success. His name is Henrik Lundqvist. He stopped 38 of 39 shots. If the Rangers hold on to win, it will because of Lundqvist.

So much has happened since my last post. Shall we begin?

Alex Ovechkin sat out of tonight’s game with a foot injury and the Caps lost their third straight. The Caps have fallen to the third spot in the division behind the Devils. Lets hope they can get it turned around against Pittsburgh.

What happened? The Capitals are in a funk. They have lost 2 straight games. Both games were at home and to division foes. The trade deadline came and went with no moves. Many speculated the team would get a veteran backup goaltender. Coach Boudreau is not happy and he will take care of it. The team should get a break when the Maple Leafs come to town and then the rematch with the Penguins. I don’t see a real rivalry with the Pens, but after last game, it’s on. To quote Don Cherry, “He’s gonna get it, and get it good.” Of course Cherry refereed to Ovechkin, but I am referring to Crosby. It should be a high energy, heavy hitting game.
