I’m Back

For the last 2 months I have been in an inconsistent disconnect with sports. Now I am back and ready for the fall. Speaking of fall, tonight is the first preseason game for the Redskins. I won’t preview the game and give you pointless obvious facts, rather I hope you enjoy the game and enjoy the fact that football is back. Hail to the Redskins

The NFL Networks Adam Schefter reports the Redskins and CB DeAngelo Hall have agreed to a six year $54 million deal, $22.5 million guaranteed.

Just under 4 hours remain before the start of free agency in the NFL. The big question is will the Redskins stick with their plan to build through draft, or are they going to make a big splash in free agency. Last year, I was hopeful that the team was changing their philosophy and draft players they need. Now all I hear is Dan Snyder has his check book ready. Lets call it the Dan Snyder Stimulus Plan. As every second ticks away, I fear that the Redskins will be the top story on Sportscenter. On the bright side, most NFL fans would love to have an owner like Snyder. He isn’t scared to spend money. In DC we observe two ways of building a team. The Washington Capitals gutted their team and started over. Now they are one of the top teams in the NHL. The Skins just throw away money, and hope for a 9-7 or 10-6 season and a wild card spot. Whatever happens, happens. I will still watch the games and support my team.

Super Bowl Recap

Congratulations to the Steelers on their 6th Super Bowl yesterday. They did what they needed to do to win. The last drive will go down in history as one one of those famous drives. Congratulations to the Cardinals on a hard fought game and season.

Now to the fun stuff. Can you say Conspiracy Theory? The officiating of this game was horrible. This gives the Steelers controversial Super bowls wins. I believe that Kurt Warners arm was moving forward thus making it a complete pass. If the officials agreed, with the personal foul, It would have been 1st and 10 at the Steelers 35. The Cardinals have the weapons to make that play. The Steelers did what they needed to do.

The NFL needs to keep their calls consistant. I don’t care that it is the Super Bowl, Santonio Holmes committed a penalty and the ref ignored it. Now the season is over, will Holmes be suspended for his drug incident. Be consistent, make your calls and shut up!

Hey Dan Patrick, the Steelers are have the NFL record for Super Bowls, not NFL Championships. Before the merger, they were nothing. The team with the most NFL championships is the Green Bay Packers with 11. The Steelers have long way to go.

Super Bowl Preview

I love the game of football, but I am tired of the crap that come with the Super Bowl. Here is a quick preview of what I feel is important. The Arizona Cardinals have the 4th ranked offense in the NFL, but the 19th ranked defense. The Pittsburgh Steelers have the top ranked defense in the NFL, but the 22nd ranked offense. During the post-season, the Cardinals offense has continued to role and their defense has stepped up. The Steelers offense has not been great, but they won’t lose the team the game. For the Steelers to win, the defense needs to keep up what they are doing, and the offense must eliminate mistakes.

It isn’t as simple for Arizona, they need to protect QB Kurt Warner and make holes for the running backs. They need to win time of possession. The Steelers will keep running and use up the clock, so it is imperative to keep the Steelers offense off the field. The Cardinals defense needs to stop the run and guard the deep pass. Getting to QB Ben Roethlisberger isn’t going to be an issue, he was sacked 46 times this season.

The prediction:
Arizona 17 Pittsburgh 24
I want the Cardinals to win, but I just don’t think they can beat the Steelers D.

A lot has happened since I last published, so I will try to catch up. I won’t talk about the Super Bowl until we get closer to Sunday. I love football, but there is too much hype. Why did ESPN have Sunday NFL Countdown this mourning?

Tonight is the NHL All-Star game. I know many people don’t care about it, but tonight is all about goals. I love hockey and I want to know why people don’t. The answer I get the most is…not enough scoring. Scoring is up in the NHL and super stars that are capable of 60+ goal seasons are back to the game. The second have of the regular season starts Monday.

Last Tuesday, I went to the UVA vs UMD basketball in College Park. I was ready to bash the notoriously bad mannered Maryland fans, but I couldn’t. The arena was a third empty, which is unacceptable for an ACC opponent. I know it was Inauguration Day, but there was no traffic. The fans that actually showed up, weren’t really into the game. They got loud a few times, but it didn’t feel like a college game. The game itself was bad. Each team was plagued by turnovers and Maryland couldn’t rebound to save their lives.

That what happened this week. My outlook for next week is the Wizards will loose and the Caps will win!
