David Poole

On Tuesday, David Poole suffered a massive heart attack and passed away. He was a writer for the Charlotte Observer and co-host of The Morning Drive on Sirius/XM. I rarely read his column, but I am a loyal listener of TMD. I never met him, but miss his strong opinions that I usually disagreed with. I want to thank and praise Mike Bagley for still doing the show. I know it was hard for him, but he helped all his listeners get through this tough time.

RIP David Poole

Caps vs Pens

After coming back from a 2-0 and 3-1 deficit against the Rangers, the Caps will face the flightless birds on Derby Day. If you are the NHL, is the rebirth complete. The sports 2 biggest and 2 best stars will be slugging it out for a trip the the Eastern Conference finals. The game will at 2pm in the east on NBC (for our Canadian viewers CBC). With the game taking place on a Sunday on free TV, I predict that this game will get some nice ratings. So will it live up to the hype?

Bandwagon

I hate bandwagon fans. Recently this subject has been coming up a lot in. I have decided to look at the teams people support to make it acceptable. I am a homer and I love all my local teams except the Nati[o]nals (go O’s). I have no issue with people supporting teams that they don’t live around as long as they have a valid reason or connection to that team or city. Then there are the losers who will support the top tier franchises. To validate being a fan of a good team, one must support the bad team in the city.

Here is my list:
Steelers-Pirates
Cowboys-Stars, Mavericks, Astros, Spurs, Rangers (talk about verity)
Yankees-Rangers, NJ Devils, Islanders, Knicks (notice No Football)
Red Sox– Bruins, Patriots
Celtics- Bruins, Patriots
Lakers– Kings, Clippers
Packers- Bucks, Brewers

If this list was followed, I would have no issue with their fans, but they don’t. I have been a fan of losing teams seemingly my entire life. Rooting for these teams, make a championship that much more enjoyable.

NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is Saturday and there is a lot of speculation that the Redskins will draft Mark Sanchez. So is Jason Campbell going to be the Skins starting QB? If he is not, why not let Colt Brennan try. He may not have been a high pick in the draft, but he is a damn good passer.

Caps Lose Game 4

The Rangers won 2-1 to take a 3-1 series league over the Caps. The Caps have dominated the games, but have only one win to show for it. I don’t believe the Rangers are a good team. It looks like the Caps are wearing them out. There is one reason for the Rangers success. His name is Henrik Lundqvist. He stopped 38 of 39 shots. If the Rangers hold on to win, it will because of Lundqvist.

Caps Win Game 3

NHL Playoffs

And So It Begins…

RIP Harry Kalas

Legendary broadcaster Harry Kalas passed away Monday at Nationals Park. He broadcasted Phillies baseball and NFL films. I will remember him for his work with NFL films. As far as I’m concerned, no voice characterized football better than Kalas’s. I never knew him or listened to him for baseball, but I will miss his voice. RIP Harry Kalas.

A Real First Pitch

In the YES Network blog, Jon Lane decided to respond to the Orioles fan reception of one Mark Teixeira.

I’d be remiss if I failed to mention the select few Orioles’ fans disgusting and despicable treatment of Mark Teixeira. You knew – and Teixeira knew – that he’d be showered with boos. He spurred an offer from the O’s to come home and play at Camden Yards to accept the Yankees’ zillions and he’s a marquee player in an enemy uniform. Fans pay money – big money. They have every right to boo and boo loudly.

But that wasn’t enough for a few jerks. Before a pregame interview, one person yelled, “We hate you, sellout.” Another told Teixeira to “get out of our park.” Someone else shouted, “What does it feel like to be a corporate (prostitute)?”

Here’s the kicker: Some fans held up a sign that read, “Severna Park hates you, Tex.” Memo to these fans: Many of your brethren will find better things to do this summer than show loyalty towards your team. This once-proud organization has lost 90-plus games three consecutive seasons. Whether you were Mark Teixeira or Alvaro Espinoza coming out of retirement, you’d accept an offer to play for the Yankees, a team with a legit chance to win, wouldn’t you?

Nice job attacking Orioles fans. This from poeple that still booed Kevin Millar. Yankee fans never heckle opposing players. I don’t blame Teixeira for signing for money, the problem is the team he signed with. If really wanted to be on a team the would that would have a shot at winning every year he should have signed with the Angels or Red Sox. I am tired of hearing Yankee fans talk like the are entitled to win every year. I thought missing the playoffs would humble them. I obviously was wrong.
